A poem I wrote in 2024 took a new shape as I shot a super 8 film for the Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival in Seattle, July 2025. Later as I was putting it all together I wrote music for the piece as I was reflecting on what it means to be seen and how shrinking our gaze can expand our sense of connection.

~looking closer, we become infinite~

i feel small
and i look at the ground
and i notice a small stone
and then a tiny red spider
and go closer
my face on the ground
and i see a whole world teeming of life
and i remember
when a small caterpillar crossed my hand
and no one saw it
but for a moment
i felt chosen
and i think the smaller i get
there’s never any less of me
i could pick up this rock
and a whole world would come teeming with it
when im looking
for who is looking
at me
not knowing
the looking is becoming
is the tiny rock i step on
is the tiny red spider
i am someone
if I allow myself to be
