About

Julia Pryde Thompson is a Cuban-American writer, curator, and producer working at the intersection of technology, narrative, and emerging mediums. She holds a deep belief that we are all active storytellers, and that the best experiences invite everyone into that role.

With 9+ years of experience blending narrative, anthropology, and theater with technical collaboration, her work explores how perception shapes understanding, how we learn and share information, and how we can create collectively. She's especially drawn to bringing the non-human world to life: a conversational owl in the redwoods, a spirit-plant companion in Vision Pro, an AR creature with a distinct personality, experiences that make technology feel magical rather than mechanical, and that position the audience not as observers but as participants.

Julia has collaborated with Niantic Spatial, Apple, Snap, Inworld AI, Netflix, Liquid City, Botto, and more, developing interactive narratives across conversational AI, XR/AR, machine learning, exhibition design, and projection mapping. She was previously a member of the Refik Anadol Studio, researching how machine learning applied to archival information could illuminate the complexities of our multidimensional stories and world. Before that, she worked with MacArthur-winning opera director Yuval Sharon, Disney's Technology and Innovation Lab, and a small LA creative studio developing TV treatments.

When not writing, she makes music and occasionally acts under the moniker Isla Vidal, loves taking photographs outside and enjoys long meandering walks.
